Protecting the health and safety of our company’s people and site visitors is vital to ensuring a secure, productive environment and demonstrating a commitment to wellbeing. We aim to establish a positive health and safety culture, addressing hazards across functions and ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
This includes:
- Responsible, compliant management of hazardous materials and waste
- Raising awareness among colleagues, visitors, and contractors of hazards relevant to their activities
- Developing processes for oversight, management, and continual improvement
- Meeting applicable legislation across our operations and adopting compliant occupational health and safety processes
Health and safety training
We deliver training on health and safety topics to all staff regularly. In-person training is also provided for individuals in key health and safety roles at site level, such as first-aiders and fire marshals.
Between 1 March 2022 and 28 February 2023, we delivered health and safety training to 2,438 colleagues across EMEA and APAC, achieving a completion rate of 82%.
Digital incident and accident reporting system
In FY23, we also launched a digital incident and accident reporting system in our European logistics facilities, making it easier for employees to report accidents and near-misses. This system provides much improved visibility to undertake the necessary root cause analysis and corrective action procedures.
Throughout this financial year, there were only two reported accidents through this system. For the same period, there were 93 hazards reported. We believe the frequency of site inspections means hazards are spotted and addressed before they develop into more serious issues.
We have also incorporated key health and safety metrics within performance reviews of the European logistics centres, reflective of a positive cultural shift where performance is no longer measured solely using traditional operational indicators.
