Why the planet matters in Responsible Business
Protecting our planet is important.
That’s why we’re taking action to minimise our largest impact area: supply chain emissions. We plan to use our scale and influence in the supply chain to promote sustainability and help our partners do the same.
We’re also working to minimise our environmental footprint through circular and environmentally responsible technology, which provides commercial value to our partners and vendors.

Tackling climate change
We’ve mapped an ambitious path to tackle climate change.
In doing so, we’re helping not only ourselves, but also our partner ecosystem, reduce their environmental impact.
Here are some of the ways we do it:
SBTi Net-Zero Standard
In July 2022, we submitted a letter of commitment to the SBTi Net-Zero Standard. This means we’ll be setting an ambitious emissions reduction target at the pace and scale that climate science requires
Creation of our ESG department
We’ve welcomed five new additions to our ESG team this year to help spearhead our ESG initiatives across the globe
Climate Strategy project
This project established an innovative strategy to demonstrate our ambitions in environmental reporting and keep us aligned with reporting requirements. We now have a five-year roadmap that provides a foundation for our environmental initiatives moving forwards
Baseline scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions
Using data from a wide range of sources, we’ve established a baseline carbon footprint that gives us a clear picture of our business and supply chain emissions. This helps us understand the nature of our emissions so that we can effectively reduce them
Datatec CDP 2022
Datatec, our parent company, has expanded its geographic footprint to include APAC in its CDP reporting. This means we are now reporting data across our entire operations, giving us a complete carbon footprint for Scope 1 and 2 emissions
Sustainability ERG
As part of the ONE Westcon program, we have an ERG that focuses on sustainability. We’re getting our employees talking and thinking about ESG, as well as giving them insight into the ‘local’ impacts of sustainability across the business
Supporting a sustainable supply chain
We’re using our influence and scale to boost sustainability, drive innovation, and help our partners achieve their own sustainability goals.
Here are some of the ways we do it:
EcoVadis Bronze Medals and improvement analysis
In FY21, we were awarded EcoVadis bronze medals, putting us in the top 50% of companies rated. In FY22, our Australia, New Zealand, and Asia businesses also received bronze medals. In the meantime, we brought in ESG consultants to help us identify gaps to improve our rating
ISO security certifications
Our European logistics centres and Westcon ITS have both achieved the ISO 27001 (information security) certification, demonstrating our ability to ensure the integrity of our data and act according to best practices. Similarly, our European logistics teams have also been accredited with the ISO 28000 supply chain security certification
Promoting environmentally responsible technology
We’re helping our partners realise the value in circular technology, reducing e-waste, and promoting eco-friendly technology solutions.
Here are some of the ways we do it:
Reverse logistics and screening for reuse
We help partners re-use and recycle equipment through hardware collection and box provisioning. Decommissioned equipment is transported back to Westcon-Comstor for screening for reuse.
We’ve been supporting reverse logistics since 2007. In that time, we’ve helped our partners utilise over 400,000 units of used equipment. We’ve also saved partners over $6 million through the reuse of IT cables alone.
