Why people matter in Responsible Business
Our people are the heart of our business.
Creating an inclusive culture that’s happy and healthy ensures our people have fulfilling careers. We nurture professional growth in our employees every day, giving them the freedom and tools they need to reach their aspirations.
We embed DEI into our recruitment and people processes to create a sense of belonging and empower every employee to be a game-changer. Embracing people from all walks of life allows us to harness diverse knowledge, experience, and expertise.
Developing our people to achieve their best
Through equitable access to skills and development training, we’re supporting and growing our pool of experts and empowering people to reach their potential.
Here are some of the ways we do it:
Ongoing training opportunities
This year, we increased training budgets by 25% globally to continue supporting all employees’ personal development plans and strategic initiatives. We also provide ‘always-on’ training resources across leadership and development, desktop application skills, technical skills, personal development, and wellbeing and professional development
Leadership and development
We invested $150,000 in leadership and development training in the last 12 months alone. As a people-oriented business, this training helps our managers lead and support our teams across the globe
DEI training
Our employees come from many different backgrounds and cultures. We give consideration to those differences through numerous DEI training initiatives, having enrolled circa 900 employees on DEI training between March-September 2022
Embracing diversity and fostering inclusion
Innovation stems from diversity of thought, experience, and backgrounds. To nurture this, we give all our people an equal voice to contribute to the company’s success.
Here are some of the ways we do it:
ONE Westcon Program
ONE Westcon provides a safe space for team members to share stories and experiences, provide mentorship and education, build upon policies, and empower each other to reach full potential
Diversity and inclusion employee resource group (ERG)
Our diversity and inclusion ERG brings volunteers together to celebrate their differences in a safe space and broaden their knowledge, understanding, and perspective
Pay equity
As champions of transparency and accountability, Westcon-Comstor Australia routinely submits equity reports to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency
Lactation room
Our Kenyan office has a lactation room where team members can nurse their babies in a comfortable, private area. This allows nursing mums to work from the office stress-free
Promoting our people’s health and wellbeing
Prioritising our people’s overall wellness helps us enhance our employee experiences while creating a fulfilled, productive workforce.
Here are some of the ways we do it:
Health & wellbeing ERG
This resource group encourages a habitual, well-balanced lifestyle and provides support through our community. Members can share experiences and thoughts on mental health and wellbeing, and make meaningful, new connections in the business
Wellbeing Rooms
Some of our offices have opened ‘Calm Rooms’, which provide a calming, stress-free space for staff to meditate, look after their mental health, and relax. These rooms have been kitted out with various calming features, such as sound machines, mental health posters, fleece blankets, and seasonal adjustment disorder lamps
Health Committee
Westcon-Comstor Spain’s Health Committee supports employee wellbeing in various ways, such as through ergonomic desk arrangements and flexible working hours
Employee Assistance Program
We’ve made significant investments in various assistance initiatives across our locations. For example, we offer the ‘Ask Nelson’ program in South Africa, which gives employees and their households access to 24/7 telephone counselling, 365 days a year
Fun in the workplace
From online quizzes to in-person FIFA days, we organise fun activities to nurture a happy work environment
